TRAINING PROGRAMS

While each of the IMTS training programs described below draws on a standard body of well-researched relevant information, each training program we conduct is tailored to the needs of a specific client; we work with you to make sure that the topics covered in a training program meet your needs.

Sex Offender Management & Treatment Training

The foundation for sex offender management is sex offender specific training. While there are some similarities with other offenders, sex offenders are truly unique from all other offenders and require a special understanding and use of sex offender specific approaches to manage them.

IMTS has experience training agencies and staffs in the following areas of sex offender management:

1. Assessment to Re-offend.
2. Sex Offender Specific Treatment.
3. Appropriate Supervision Techniques for Sex Offenders on Probation and Parole.
4. Collaboration between Criminal Justice Agencies, and with Community Agencies.
5. Understanding Sex Offenders from a Victim’s Point of View.
6. Sex Offending within the Church.
7. Influence of Pornography on Sex Offending.
8. Mentally Ill Sex Offenders.
9. Female Sex Offenders.
10. Statutory Sex Offenders.

Agencies, individuals, and organizations trained by IMTS staff include the following:

1. Judges
2. Probation and Parole Staff
3. Victims of Sex Offenses
4. Victim Witness Staff
5. Clinicians Providing Sex Offender Treatment
6. Jail Staff
7. Prosecutors and Defense Attorneys
8. Detectives and Police Officers who Investigate Sex Offenses
9. Church Groups
10. Neighborhood Associations
11. Children’s Assessment Staff
12. Social Service Agencies
13. Domestic Violence Staff
14. Hospital Staff
15 Prison Staff
16. Community Corrections Staff.

IMTS partners operated one of the largest and most comprehensive prison-based sex offender management and treatment programs in the country and have been involved in sex offender training and consultation for the past 15 years. We have conducted numerous training seminars and are recognized as experts in the field. The focus of all IMTS training is NO More Victims.

The ideal training seminar involves representatives from numerous agencies in order to facilitate dialogue between them for the purpose of better understanding other agencies’ roles in dealing with sex offenders, and to facilitate better cooperation between them. Generally, three IMTS partners are involved in the training.

Cost for a 6 hour training session: $2,000 plus normal business expenses.

Facility Emergency Management Training

Many correctional facilities have an emergency plan, with some of those plans being quite detailed and complicated. However, just having a plan does not necessarily guarantee staff will be prepared to use it when faced with an emergency. In many instances, the development of emergency response plans ends up as academic exercises because staff is unable to implement the emergency plans. They are simply too complicated and practiced too infrequently for staff to be familiar with them without having to refer to lengthy manuals each time. Therefore it is important to bridge the rather wide gap that usually exists between having developed a detailed emergency response plan, on the one hand, and, on the other, being able to actually mobilize your correctional facility to respond to any kind of emergency.

An emergency response plan identifies the resources that are available to respond to emergencies, describes policies and procedures that need to be addressed in specific types of emergencies, and may even describe staff roles and functions that need to be performed during the course of an emergency. What such plans often fail to do is describe how staff will go about the business of learning how to structure the institution so as to use the emergency plan to actually respond to an emergency.

Mobilizing a correctional facility has to be almost instinctive for staff. A good analogy is that of the military battle station concept where everyone has a “battle station” to report to and a function to perform in an emergency. Staff must know what to do automatically in an emergency situation. A developing emergency situation is not the time when staff should have to refer to a lengthy, complex document (no matter how detailed and well written) to understand how they and other staff should respond.

This IMTS Emergency Management training program facilitates the development of emergency response policies and procedures, the establishments of appropriate emergency command and control functions, trains staff, establishes and conducts security monitoring exercises, and identifies measurable outcomes.

Cost of this training is $2000 plus normal business expenses for an eight hour day, with a three day training package recommended, i.e., $6,000 total, plus normal business expenses.

Sexual Harassment Prevention & Management Training

Two things are certain about sexual harassment: It is against the law; and it happens in every organization regardless of type or size.

The IMTS Sexual Harassment Prevention & Management training program will prepare your organization not only to respond to sexual harassment related complaints, but to also help you prevent incidents of sexual harassment from occurring in the first place. This training makes use of extensive group interaction, and case histories, to deliver information of the following topics:

1. What the law says about sexual harassment, and about management's legal obligations.
2. Specific definitions as to just what constitutes sexual harassment.
3. How to foster a sexual harassment zero tolerance organization culture.
4. Developing sexual harassment policies and procedures.
5. Development of sexual harassment complaint, investigation, and counseling procedures.
6. Defending against sexual harassment complaints.
7. Mediating sexual harassment complaints.

IMTS has over fifteen years of successful experience dealing with sexual harassment situations

Cost of this training is $2000 for a six hour training day, plus normal business expenses.
