Web Promotion and Maintenance

Promotion

The promotion of the Alternative Breaks website has already begun. Since the site was published over a month ago, AB has been using the web address in promotional materials, word of mouth advertisements, organizational e-mails, and university-wide emails from the Office of Student Life. Before the site was published, the Alternative Breaks brochure was available for an online source of information.

Server Space

Due to the fact that personal server space is wiped out when one graduates, the AB site will be taking up residence on AB’s server space during winter semester of 2006. Development instructions will be written out for future updates of the site. I made the most important information on the site very concise in efforts to reduce the amount of “details” that might change and need to be updated. The only sections of the site which would be mandatory updates are the list of dates and the list of site leaders. Both of these pages which would require updates are simple to navigate in Dreamweaver and do not require any special knowledge of HTML. Until I graduate in December of 2006, I will be the sole maintainer of the AB website.

The permanence of the Alternative Breaks program over the years is not guaranteed. With the website, hopefully more and more people will become interested in the program after finding the site and keep AB alive. The program could grow to epic proportions and with it, I hope the AB site is able to stay flexible and expand with the ever growing popularity of the AB program here at Grand Valley.
