Asians and the 4-Letter Word: LGBT: Bee Yang
"What is it like to be gay? What is it like to be Asian? What is it like to be both gay and Asian? When it comes to the topic of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) issues, it has always been a taboo topic to discuss within the Asian community. However, it is not for Grand Valley student Bee Yang. Drawing from his own personal journey, Yang will discuss the strives and struggles of LGBT Asians over time in history. In addition, he will also present how we can all reach out to the Asian community and address LGBT equality. |

Keynote Speaker: Angela Chee
“Breaking Through Cultural Barriers and Society’s Stereotypes”
As a first generation Chinese American born to immigrant parents Angela grew up with two cultures shaping her personality. At times this cultural mix has been a blessing and at other times an obstacle. She believes cultural differences and society’s stereotypes have a major impact on how we present ourselves, how we view ourselves consciously and subconsciously, and how we react to situations. Ultimately this affects how we go about accomplishing our goals. She believes we can have these differences empower us, rather than hold us back from our full potential. Angela Chee teaches people how to break through cultural barriers and stereotypes in society and in themselves in order to achieve success in their personal and professional lives and make a difference in their communities.
