. Privatization of health care is being promoted by the El Salvadoran government.  The doctors of El Salvador are currently on strike in an attempt to stop privatization.  They joined common laborers in the Workers Day march on May 1, 2003 in order to send accentuate their message to the El Salvadoran government.

These are common laborers who are participating in the Workers Day march.  They want to remind others that laborers are the backbone of any business.  El Salvadorans tend to be politically aware and politically active.
There were massive numbers of laborers at the march to demonstrate the power of solidarity.  Laborers in El Salvador are concerned about many issues such as; Privatization of health care, globalization, a desire to reject CAFTA (Central American Free Trade Agreement), and the U.S. occupation of Iraq.  The march began in the business district of El Salvador and ended in the neighborhood where many of the common laborers may be living.
