Out 'N' About
Grand Valley State University's Gay/Straight Alliance and LGBTQIA Cultural Organization
Our Mission: Out 'N' About encourages interaction with the Grand Valley State University community to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance of LGBTQIA issues on campus. We invite students, faculty, staff, and community members — of every gender identity and sexuality — to participate in ONA events, attend weekly meetings and discuss issues affecting the LGBTQIA and GVSU community.
- What do we do?
- Group discussions about LGBTQIA-related issues and events.
- Educational presentations.
- Community-building games and activities.
- Social outings.
- Community service opportunities.
- Annual events.
- Allies are welcome!
How to get involved...
Have a say in your community events by attending our weekly meetings, Wednesdays @ 9pm, usually in room KC 2201 during the Fall 2014 semester, upstairs in the Kirkhof Center. Everyone is welcome! More details on our calendar. Come to meetings and events, participate in education, make friends and build connections, and help make our voices heard.
News and updates:
The amazing speaker we recruited from this year's MBLGTACC, Tynan Fox, will talk charismatically about kink, consent, and self-acceptance on September 17th at 7pm, Pere Marquette room (KC 2204). We're requesting LIB 100 approval for this, but we promise a thrilling and educational program in any case: the perfect counterbalance to hype about Fifty Shades of Grey.
The Big Gay Hayride, our fun outing to a local orchard for corn mazes, cider, and (hopefully!) goats, will be held Saturday, October 11th. Meet at the Queer Corner just outside the LGBT Resource Center in Kirkhof at 3pm to catch the carpool out to Fruit Ridge Hayrides.
The Amateur Drag Show is coming around again — Thursday, October 23rd at 8pm in the Cook-Dewitt Auditorium. Please consider bringing a donation of canned goods, cereal, peanut butter, or any other non-perishable food to benefit the GVSU Women's Center Food Pantry. Donations of money at the door or on the runway (to benefit Out 'N' About's 'More Dollars Than Six' Campaign) are also accepted.
November brings Out 'N' About's yearly candlelight vigil to recognize the deaths caused by transphobic violence over the past year, 8pm on November 19th.
