Growing up in the small town of Coopersville, Michigan, I have always been actively involved in the community. Everyone knew eachother and going to a football game each week felt like a family reunion every Friday. This close-knit town encouraged my interest in community and interactions of people that has found its way into my artwork and into my teaching philosophy. Taking courses such as Civic Studio at Grand Valley, nourished this enthusiasm and allowed me to deepen my understanding of the implications of public and interactive art. As I move into my teaching career, these interests continue to motivate my work both in the studio and the classroom. Issues of the relationship between the public and art are means of constant investigation.
