"They are the family we choose to surround us, the sisters bound by love instead of blood. Why Go Greek At All? Joining a sorority is much more than wearing letters or wearing pins - it's the values in which the sorority stands upon. Immediately after joining, you are surrounded by colleagues with similar interests and common goals. Going Greek offers many opportunities, including scholarship, leadership, philanthropy, sisterhood, social development, and networking through Greek alumnae that span many years. Not only do you join a sorority here at GVSU, you join the national organization that will help you not only through college but long after. It’s not four years – it’s for life! Alpha Sigma Tau Hazing Policy GVSU does not tolerate hazing of any sort. GVSU has a zero tolerance policy towards hazing and the Alpha Sigma Tau Gamma Xi is in absolute compliance with GVSU’s policy and our own national policy. Hazing is defined as any activity that causes mental anguish or physical discomfort, actions which endanger life or have the potential of causing bodily harm. We do not believe in hazing and we do not believe that hazing is what bonds of sisterhood should be based on. Our new members are treated with the utmost respect and we do everything we can to make them feel comfortable and accepted into our sisterhood. How Will I Know Which Organization is Right For Me? Each sorority on campus is different, but we all carry the same common goal – it is your choice to decide which one you feel you fit best with and whose ideals are the same as yours. Follow your heart – it will hit you when you have found your home!
