CAN YOUR LAPTOP REALLY SAVE THE PLANET?

The computer world can be so very confusing at times. I just got off the phone with my sister and she told me that she wants very much to get a laptop for Christmas, and so I called my mom and told her that she wants a laptop or a notebook for Christmas with a lcd screen. My mother said that she will pay for it, but since she knows nothing about it, could I find one for her and let her know how much.

Mom is a little bit technology challenged, but it is really not her fault. I mean computers just came onto the scene a few years ago and already they have changed and developed so much it is hard to keep up with it all. Honestly, I would consider myself to only have a cursory knowledge of the field myself, yet I can do a lot more on my computer than most people can, and I have been able to show a lot of people what to do and how to do different things online. There is so much great information out here on the web, and accessing all of it becomes easier and easier each day. With great search engines and lots of different links, you can just click, click, click and have so much information right there on your computer screen in seconds, it is astounding. The one thing I guess that I hope for in the future is that computers start making some of these reference type books obsolete. The one item that I really feel needs to be made obsolete is the phone book. I receive about 5 a year, from different companies and I have only one home phone. These phone books are wasteful, as no one needs more than one phone book per year. On top of this, with all this information available on the web, there is really no need for them at all. Once they are printed, the trees are already gone and the waste is already created, whether or not we actually take them, for the most part they will wind up in the landfill, and this is just a shame.

Using the internet is an eco-friendly way to get all the information you need and still save the planet, it is truly amazing.

USING A PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATION SERVICE TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS

Dealing with business abroad can be an exciting adventure, however, being able to communicate in all different languages can present some serious challenges, and sometimes translations can produce a multitude of interesting results and if they aren't accurate they can severely offer some significantly confusing results. It is important that if you are going to transact business overseas and do not fluently speak the language and all the different dialects in each country that you use a reliable professional translation service for your business.

A professional translation service should be able to provide you with an accurate translation every time, irregardless of the language or dialect of the other party. It is helpful if they provide you with at least a Spanish translation service and German translation services, primarily because these are two of the most common foreign languages that you will encounter, however it is helpful if they offer a multitude of different languages to cover all the different regions of the world, in which you might translate business. They should be not only willing to translate information from your language to the other, but they must also be able to do the reverse translation as well. Many companies offer translation services for various documents, however you not only want to use a translation service for your general correspondence, but will need a company that will also provide you with a legal translation as well. This is especially important when you are dealing with contracts and other agreements to which it is imperative that both parties are completely clear on the meaning.

It is also helpful if your translation service can provide you with a proofreading service as well, to help insure that your documents are not only accurate, but well laid out as well, and since you may not understand the language that the document is printed in, you definitely will need someone to make sure that the correct punctuation and grammar are being used.

Finding a reliable professional translation service is half the battle when transacting business overseas. It is important to your business that you use a service to provide you with the most accurate translations available to allow your business overseas to be as successful as possible.

THE PERSIAN WOOL RUG FROM THE PAST

My mother has always loved Persian Carpets, and so growing up we always had them around. I don't think that I ever really paid them much attention but now that I am older and am decorating my own place, I can truly appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these beautiful works of art. They are not just carpets as I had always thought in the past, but they are culturally significant, and no two are exactly alike. Each one contains its own colors and patterns, some even seem to tell a story. I found that I like the the ones that seem a bit more primitive with symbols and I really like the ones with lots of red in them.

As a matter of fact, I found a Persian Wool Rug that I love so much that I designed my whole living room around it. I chose the rug first and then decided on the wall color, furnishings, and curtains. Now the room is actually just about finished and I can't tell you how pleased I am with the whole thing.

Well, my mother came over yesterday and she had a big smile on her face, when she saw my living room. I asked her what was up and she just laughed. She said that when I was little we had a carpet that was very similar to the one I had chosen for my living room. She said, "You always loved that rug when you were a little girl, it is funny that you chose one so similar for your own home". We both got a laugh out of that. And I told my mother the minute I saw that rug, I knew I had to have it. I didn't know why, but I knew I loved it. I went on to tell her how I decorated the whole room around the rug because that is how much I wanted it.

When my mother left I sat down on the couch looking at the room I had created and my perfect persian rug. I was glad to be sitting in that room, it had come out just the way I had pictured it and I love it.

FINDING AFFORDABLE HEALTH INSURANCE

These days it can be difficult to find affordable health insurance. Even if you work for a large company or corporation and they supplement your premiums you could still be paying a lot for health insurance. I actually heard over the past few years that health insurance premiums have more than doubled. Fortunately, there are still some companies out there that can provide even the private pay customer with cheap health insurance premiums. They can be hard to find, so you must really do your homework. Don't just buy into the fact that health insurance is too expensive and that you can't afford it. Go online and look at as many health insurance policies as you can, and you will actually find that there can be a significant difference in premiums from one company to the next. Not only that, but there are a variety of different policies to choose from.

For instance if you are a person who doesn't visit the doctor very often, then you may just need to have a hospitalization policy. Having this will cover you in case you are in an accident or have a major illness or are in need of surgery.

Sometimes this is the most appropriate insurance for an individual, as if you are only going to the doctor once or twice a year tops, then your health insurance premiums may actually be more than it would cost you to pay out of pocket for a couple of doctor's visits. This is a fact that you need to weigh very carefully. Making sure that your health insurance plan suits your needs, and your life is one of the most important things of all. If you are paying really high premiums, you may need to look at your alternatives, and don't be afraid to shop around, it can make a huge difference in your monthly health insurance premiums. Find a place that will give you free insurance quotes.

Being insured is important, but keep in mind so is being insured correctly. If you want to consider your options then you may want to sit down with an insurance agent, and they can help you choose a plan that is right for you.

A credible Business

I have always wondered how people make their at home business more credible. If I went to a lawyer and they had a nice fancy office with awards and proof that they won cases and brought in revenue, I would probably chose them over someone who made their office in the basement of their parent's house. I don't have anything against people who start up their own companies, actually I admire them, but I feel like there may be certain ways to make yourself more professional.

Having a valid phone number may make you business more credible. I would believe it was a business if toll free numbers popped up on my caller ID rather than someone's last name. Just thinking about toll free numbers makes me think of professional businesses or like the real deal. There are several ways you can get a toll free number if you are thinking of starting a business (which I did not know), you can go online to Tollfreenumber.ORG and you can order one (that sounds so weird, ordering a phone number). But it really does help to make your business more professional sounding.

Another thing is business cards. You really do look lame when you don't have a business card. I remember watching Entourage when Eric starts his new agency and he really gets people hooked and wanting to come with him for him to represent them and then they ask for his business card and he doesn't have one and they look at him like he's a fake. Having a business card makes you look better to the people you are interacting with and makes your actual business sound more concrete.

The last thing I think is important is to find an office space. One time when I was watching Monk on TV I saw an episode where Monk's assistant rents him out an office space and it made him feel more professional. While it may feel like that, it also makes your clients trust you more and gives you a lot more credibility.

A lot of people have the smarts to get clients and the personality to reach out to people and get them to be more interested in your company, but if you don't have a company that looks credible and professional they probably aren't going to stick with you very long, they'll probably laugh at you to their friends later on.

STARTING A HEALTH FOOD BUSINESS...NATURAL DIET PILLS AND MUCH MORE

I have decided when I get finished up with school I want to open up a health food business. I think that it would be great to sell all natural products to people at reasonable prices. I would carry all the basics like organic fruits and veggies, and organic pre packaged foods. I would carry all natural health care products and soaps and cleaners, that not only protect people and animals but also the environment. I would carry a full line of vitamins, minerals, homeopathics, natural remedies and even some natural diet pills.

I personally think that there is a big need for a really good health food store, at least in this area, and I would like to open it right by the college campus to offer these products at a discount to students. I know it would be a big hit, and the rents in this area really aren't too bad, so I know that I could get a nice store front relatively cheap. I am not exactly how much opening a natural food store would be, but I do know that I have good enough credit at this point that I could probably get a loan. A friend of mine keeps talking about going on this with me, but I am not sure how serious she is, I however am dead serious about doing this.

I have gone online and found some wholesale distributors of natural and health products and I know that I can get them for a reasonable price and sell them for reasonable prices. Keeping the cost down on my products is extremely important to me since I think that being healthy should not cost people a fortune. It seems like these days, the worse something is for you the less it costs, and the more expensive it is, the better it is for you. I think that good health shouldn't be a privilege but a right. People deserve to have the best products for a reasonable price, and that is what I intend to offer them. I can't wait to start it up, this is going to be a lot of work, but I know that I am really going to love running my own health food store.

SWITCHING TO DIRECT TV

Okay, so I heard all the commercials for Direct TV but I never really knew what it was. I knew that it was something that you got in place of Cable, but I really didn't realize what DirecTV could offer me. When I went to a friends house, I really noticed the difference. The picture was great and they had so many more channels than I did, I reluctantly asked about their TV system and how expensive it was. To my surprise this guy was paying less for his TV stations than I was and he had way more available to him then I did. That is when I learned that he was a Direct TV subscriber, and had been for quite a few months. He told me that his cable bills were getting out of control and that he shopped around and found that Direct offered him the best deal. He said they made the switch very quick and easy and that he was not only thrilled with the price and the channel selection, but on top of that they offered great customer service. All in all, he could not say enough good things about this company and the service they provided him with.

When I got home, I called the Direct TV people and they were happy to help me. I got my directv installed in just a few days, and I was able to call my cable company and get them to cut off my service. When they came to install it, the installation process went very smoothly and the whole process was very professional. Best yet, there were no hidden costs and no equipment fees. I got a great package deal for a year, guaranteed. Now I have over 130 channels with the best quality picture and sound that you can imagine. Not only that but I get all the sports like hockey, which I didn't get before. Now I have an excuse to have the guys over to watch sports, instead of having to go hang out in a bar to see the hockey action on a big screen. My direct TV has such a great picture, I am actually considering going out to buy a new TV just to show it off.

Water Restoration in Our Home

Before I got to college I had an experience at home with flooding in our basement, so I had some prior knowledge on what to do if that happened in any of the places I lived in at school, but I really didn't grasp the whole concept I guess because I was surprised of all the damage it caused when our basement flooded a few months ago. One day I came home from class and it had been raining for about 2 to 3 hours already. I didn't really think anything of it, but later on I needed to go downstairs to do my laundry. So a few hours after that I went down to get my clothes out of the dryer and I saw that the basement had about an inch of water. I freaked out of course because that I where we stored a lot of our stuff including an extra couch and my winter clothes and other valuables. I immediately called my dad and he told us to get the valuables upstairs or at least to higher ground if we could. So we did and thought everything would dry and be okay. Well by the time I came back down to do another load of laundry it had filled up more and hit the stuff in ‘higher ground' so we all had to do more moving around of our stuff and hope that it would help a little.

Finally the raining stopped and the water restoration began. We had to get all of the water out (we used a wet vacuum) and we also had to get the couch fixed. We had someone come and look at it and they said that it would be expensive but it could be done.

Over all the restoring process was not fun. I seriously hope we don't have to do it again in the future (or at least in this house) because we really don't have room upstairs for all of our stuff, so even though we bought these crates to put everything on higher ground, if the water got past 3 or so inches the stuff would probably get wet and we would have to go through the process all over again. Our landlord was really nice about it and helped us out by having part of the basement sealed, which will prevent some water coming in if it ever happens again, but not all.
