puppy care

Last year, our dog, a collie named Muffin ran out into the road and got hit by a truck and died. Since that time I have really been wanting to get another dog, but my husband is totally against it. He says that we have enough to do with caring for the kids and we have cats and hamsters and who needs something else to take care of. I do agree with him on some level, but I think that taking care of a puppy would be good for the kids and growing up I always loved having a dog, the cat's on the other hand, I could really do without. I really don't like cats, and if it weren't for him and a trip to the pet store I still wouldn't have any. You see one day I had to go to the library to do a paper for school, when he needed to go to the pets store to get something for the hamsters, I can't remember what now. Well, it was during the summer and the kids were off school, so he took them with him to the pet store. Once there the kids fell in love with a cat, who is now named Sweetie, and he decided all on his own, with the help of the kids to bring home a little surprise for me. Well, I don't think I need tell you that I was FURIOUS!!! However, then he tells me that the pet store won't take the creature back and the only way I can get rid of it is take it to the humane society. Here that meant letting them destroy the cat, so I said to him, sure you are the good guy and buy the cat and I am the one who gets to rip it from their arms and have it put to sleep. In any case, I couldn't do that, although, I did consider having him put to sleep, but that is another story. Anyway the cat stayed, and then she started going outside and then she had kittens. Again, I hadn't much experience with cats, did not see any around, but I guess they met up somewhere. Watching the kittens be born was amazing, but cats like to keep having kittens over and over again, so this wasn't so cool. Bottom line, I prefer dogs to cats and puppies to kittens any day of the week!
