TOO MUCH TO DRINK - TOO LITTLE CROWD CONTROL

Last weekend a friend of mine asked me to come out with her to a new nightclub in town. I was a bit hesitant because I am not really a big drinker and I didn't know the other people who were going, but at the last minute with nothing else to do I said yes. We got to this place around 9:30pm and I was already thinking it was a big mistake as there was already a line in the retractable queue equipment that went all they way around the block. My friend apparently new a person who worked in the club, so we got to go right to the front of the line and they let us in. They had some really big bouncers who were obviously just there for crowd control, but one was looking at me, and he was pretty good looking so I was looking back at him. I couldn't believe how many people were in this place and even thought that it must be a fire hazard. We sat and had a drink and listened to the band and we were having an enjoyable time, until someone who was obviously intoxicated knocked down the cafe barriers in front of the band. Once that happened a fight broke out, and when the bouncers were trying to break up the brawl, they apparently left the door unattended and a crowd of people from outside came barreling into the place. Once that happened, the lights came on and the music stopped and the band fled the stage. Management came on to say that they were closing for the night, but no one moved. Well, I tried to get out, but honestly there really wasn't any place to move and no one seemed to be getting the hint that they didn't want us there anymore. Then the police were called in and they sent everyone who was still waiting outside home and then proceeded to move the people out of the building. All in all I think that about 4 people were seriously injured and about another 25 had bumps and bruises, including one guy who looked like he had been sliced with a broken bottle. I am not sure if they plan to reopen or not, but the one thing that I am sure of is that they will have stronger barriers in place and heavier security available for crowd control. It is exciting when a place is a hit, but no one wants to have to close early because things get out of control.
