The Orange Album

Organization & Content, Continued...

The next page showcases my web design, specifically my Mini Zen Garden. Using a screengrab extension on Mozilla, an image of the site was manipulated and placed in the right-hand column so the viewer can see what they are going to be clicking on. The site with my resume includes a pale scheme and a picture of a bench and light, a metaphor of what a resume does for talent (brings light, opportunities). I decided not to have the resume available as HTML, just a PDF so that it can be printed off more successfully. The "etc." page is the one that I had the most fun with, as it contains information that doesn't fit anyplace else. A list of favorite books and music, as well as an amazing picture from a protest provide a chance for my innermost personality to shine. The design report utilizes a close-up picture of oranges, based on the title of my site.

Layout

This site is divided into two sections: content and sidebar. It appears to as three different columns because the images are contained as part of the background. The left-hand navigation is partly thanks to Listamatic, though it has been modified significantly. With my knowledge of usability, this left-hand navigation menu seemed to be the easiest way to provide links and since it is the same on each page, it creates the illusion that everything is in one page. There were some diffulties in this layout, as the pictures on the right appear as backgrounds they are a specific size. Unfortunately, I ran into some browser compatibility issues with this. Originally the site filled the page and did not need any scroll bars, and still doesn't in Internet Explorer, but if used in Mozilla the pictures are a bit bigger than the browser slightly distorting the original design concept.
