Colorful Fountain Tutorial (Part II) |
| Welcome back. This is Part II of our Colorful Fountain Tutorial. So, in order to complete this tutorial you should have three .psd's with three different colored fountains. If you don't have this part done yet, you need to go back to Part I and do that. Alright, so we start by opening a new document that is 1000 x 500 (Mode: RGB) and fill the first layer black. |
Now, you need to have open and visible all three fountains and your new 1000 x 500 document. Using the Move Tool (hotkey: Ctrl+V), left click and drag each fountain layer into the new 1000 x 500 document. Align one on the right side, one on the left, and one in the middle. If you have the ruler set, you can set the middle layer's left margin at 250pxl and the right margin at 750pxl. Set the middle layer to be the topmost. |
| With the top, middle layer selected, set the layer mode to "Lighten". |
OK, some of you would call this done, but I'm too OCD to let that happen. You notice those ugly lines where the square single fountian layers meet? Well, we're going to take care of that! |
| First, set the top, middle (in this case, blue) layer to not visible. You do this by clicking the little "eye" icon next to the layers. Now, bring up the eraser, either by clicking on the icon on the tool box, or using the hotkey Ctrl+E. Right click and select a soft (fuzzy) eraser, size 45. Now, starting about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom, erase along the edges of the boxes. Don't go in too far. I also round off the top edges to give it a more fountain-y look. Do this for both of the side layers. |
Now set the top, middle layer to visible again. It looks better, but there are still edges around that middle layer. Use the same eraser and technique to fix that layer. |
| There you have it. This is just an example of what you can do with this technique. You can make the same kind of line of fountains with more or different colors, or you could use this as a background for an avatar or sig bar. The possibilities are endless. I hope this helped.
