At GVSU I was able to start and nurture a student ham radio club. Today the students have a nice station and they make good use of it. The picture here is part of our operation during the National Science Olympiad. The students pictured are contacting other hams via low orbiting amateur space satellites, packet radio (digital/computer mode), and "short-waves". The clock tower is actually functioning as our short-wave (40 meter) antenna!
I wrote a 2 page article (with photos) which was accepted for publication in the December 1998 issue of QST - the (one-and-only) ARRL monthly magazine.
These days I am pleased that the GVSU ARC, W8GVU, is growing without
direct involvement by its founder.
