2007-2008 staff
sunday matousek , editor-in-chief
Sunday Matousek is a junior Professional Writing major here at GVSU. She loves the English language so much that when she’s not writing it, she’s reading it and when she’s not reading she’s speaking it. She may even interrupt you during a conversation (that may or may not be with her) to correct a grammatical error, and if you are lucky, she may explain why it was wrong. She loves learning more about language everyday and studies every verbal encounter she has. Other than words, she loves ideas, music, people and kittens.
elizabeth conklin, associate editor - print/web/multimedia
beth conklin is an associate editor of print, web, and multimedia for vinette. beth (short for elizabeth – don’t call her bethany or liz unless you want to invoke her deeply hidden antagonistic side) is in her junior year at grand valley state university and is a professional writing major with an emphasis on public relations. in her precious little free time, beth actually enjoys running, and has even been known to say things such as “that was a fabulous ten mile run!” she hopes to complete the 2008 chicago marathon (her first marathon) with all body parts intact and fully operational. otherwise, she enjoys candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach – as long as someone else is making the dinner and it isn’t too windy on the beach.
bettie groenhout , associate editor - professional/creative non-fiction
Bettie is a senior professional writing major and business minor at Grand Valley State University. She is currently relishing her part-time writing job and her last days as a (relatively) carefree student. As a writing major, she has become delightfully fascinated with alliteration, unique adjectives, and correct apostrophe usage. When not agonizing over her own writing, she enjoys losing herself in bookstores, vacationing in the Upper Peninsula, volunteering at area nursing homes, and spending time with friends and family.
mary pritchard, public relations director
Mary Pritchard is a sophomore Journalism major with minors in Entrepreneurship and Anthropology. Her goal is to establish and run her own magazine after graduating in 2010. She plans to move to downtown Chicago and adopt a fuzzy, loveable cat. Mary loves to read and write just about anything; she also dabbles in acting when the moment strikes her. Her favorite color is purple and her favorite food is a tie between macaroni and cheese salad, although lately chocolate chip pancakes have been appearing on the dinner table quite a bit. Mary is a lover of all animals and cries at sappy movies like The Fox and the Hound and Homeward Bound. This is her first year working for the Vinette as the Public Relations Director.
brittney mestdagh, advertising director
brittney is a freshman this year, and loving every minute of it. she is a journalism major with a potential minor in business. however, this is likely to change because she still does not know what she wants to do with her life. she has often thought about selling fruit at intersections, but has quickly dismissed that idea. her hobbies include reading countless novels, singing to show tunes as other drivers give her concerned looks on the highway, and coming up with crazy stories to tell her friends. all very professional of course! she also has an unhealthy obsession with penguins; she has one, and his name is vladimir. this is her first year working for vinette as advertising director.
kat davis , web site specialist
Kat Davis is a senior professional writing major and nonprofit administration minor who plans conquering the planet one continent at a time. So far she’s conquered North America and Oceana/Australia and Africa better watch out, it’s next. She loves other cultures, koalas, purple, her dog Missy, Bangkok chicken, and Matchbox Twenty. She brags about her website portfolio at every opportunity – http://www.katdavis.net. Eventually she wants to settle in New Mexico, but for now, Kat is focused on experiencing the world. Her mad Dreamweaver skills have made her infamous in the Writing department, thus she is the web editor for both vinette and fishladder (but she’s forbidden to speak about “them” in the presence of Megg).
joni roach, web site specialist
joni roach is a senior professional writing major with a minor in computer science. When not nerding it up while listening to classic rock on her laptop, she can be found at the gym running or pumping some iron. most acquaintances categorize her as a “tree hugging hippie” for her veggie-eating and nature-saving ways. in the future she plans on working with web and/or document design and hopefully not living in a van down by the river. she loves animals, particularly her samoyed-mix dog, indi, short for indiana jones and enjoys watching all types of movies.
jashana copeman, submissions coordinator
Jashana Copeman is technically a senior this year and is glad she can see the light at the end of the tunnel. She has been madly in love with writing since the ripe young age of four and a half. She pursued professional writing over creative writing because she'd like to do her best to avoid a future of living in a box.
Her other hobbies include pretending to be a legit photographer, convincing people she could fight them despite her small stature, and spending time with the guy who will have to share her love with writing, Kevin.
founders
maggie porter, editor
maggie is a super senior at grand valley state university. She will be graduating in April 2007 with two degrees in professional writing and photography with a minor in art. [Ahem, overachiever] maggie loves to ride her bike, design posters (which she also likes to hang in the bathrooms), and be lame because most of the time she doesn’t have time for fun. Oh, she does like the mosh pits at rock concerts that is if she isn’t jamming it up with rascal flatts. Sometimes mistaken as the crazy one maggie offers her unique perspective to vinette including her mad skills in Photoshop.
meahgan pear, editor
meahgan pear, known by those in the know as megg, is a senior professional writing major at gvsu, where her scorn for anything non-professional has become legendary. If you ask her what her favorite band is, she’ll quickly let you know that you’ve, never heard of them. Megg is a champion bowler, and famous in her small-home-town of flushing for her ability to “send those pins a-flying.” Her organization and css skills have made vinette the success it is today.
