The ESEA is the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and revisions are now being considered in Congress reguarding gifted and talented students. Both the House and Senate are considering reauthorization of a bill that would create a new state grant program that will focus on gifted students. This grant will help local school districts pay for professional development for teachers, classroom programs, and distant learning.
Also addressed in the House is the issue of the education of "twice exceptional"
students, those who are gifted but have a learning or other disabilities.
It is, however, unlikely that the added money, even if approved this year,
would become available in the next year or two.
