This site provides the first chapter of Ragtime plus a 12 minute audio file of Doctorow reading this chapter.  Also included are  various resources on the musical including a New York Times Review of the musical and audio clips from a performance.

This is a great resource that will give both students and teachers information about the tenements in New York City during the Progressive Era.  This site is particularly well matched with Riis' How the Other Half Lives .
