    If you are using a McDougal Littell textbook and do not know about this site, I strongly suggest that you view it soon.  This site provides a wealth of information for each unit, all easily accessible from your computer.  There are numerous links provided for each unit in the textbooks that will help both you and your students prepare for the literature you are reading.

    The Language of Literature: American Literature  - McDougal Littell, 1997
        - This is the textbook that I am currently using in my classroom and from which many of the works found in the unit plan outlined in the link at the top of this page have come from.  This textbook is a great basis for a literary curriculim with many good activities and ideas for minilessons provided within.  Furthermore, the works in the text are organized in such fashion that thematic units are very easy to put together.  Although I did not use all of the works provided for this unit on individualism, I did use this book as the basis for my unit.
