A Short History of Beta Beta Beta
Beta Beta Beta, or Tri-Beta, is a national honor society for
undergraduate and graduate students who wish to further the
understanding and study of biology through various means.
Tri-Beta was founded by Dr. Frank G. Brooks and his students
at Oklahoma City University in 1922. The popularity of the
society quickly grew and it became a national organization
in 1925. In 1930, Tri-Beta began publishing a journal, BIOS,
devoted to student research, interesting articles about current
biological studies, and society news. The society has grown
considerably since its creation. Today there are over 406
chapters in the US and Puerto Rico, along with more than 164,000
lifetime members. Annual conventions are held in each district,
as well as a biennial national convention. At each, student
research is presented and awards are given for the most outstanding
works.
