With almost 1.3 billion inhabitants and the world's second-largest economy, China demands our attention. This dynamic country boasts an ancient civilization spanning millennia, yet leads the world in cutting-edge developments. China's most populous city, Shanghai, radiates ineffable elegance, cosmopolitan sophistication, and obsession with the new.

THE GREAT WALL

This program will operate during the Spring and Summer terms in Shanghai, China. Students may enroll for the Spring term (6 weeks), the Summer term (6 weeks) or both terms (12 weeks). Each term, students register for 2 out of 3 courses in language, area studies, and/or general education. Courses will be taught by GVSU faculty as well as faculty from East China Normal University in Shanghai.

A core component of this program focuses on hands-on learning through field trips. Spring term field trips include trips to Beijing, Xian (the beginning of the of the Silk Road and home of the Terra Cotta Warriors), Lanzhou, and Dunhuang. Summer term field trips will take you to the rolling vistas of Tibet, Chengdu, E-Mei Mountain, Putuo Island, and Hangzhou.
