Digital Stories
Digital Stories are a wonderful way to utilize the visual aspect of
learning. Learning should not always be the usual "student sit in seat
teacher stand in front and lecture". Learning needs to be enjoyable
and intriguing. One way to accomplish this is to provide a visual aid
that can impact the student and help the student remember key points or
ideas. Second it can be a way to have students interact and
understand complex topics by forming a digital story together as a
class or in groups. Personally in my future classroom I can see myself
using this to make learning the different rocks a fun interactive
lesson. I can have students go outside and capture pictures of all the
rocks or of certain rocks I provide. Next the class can work together
and make a movie and helpful hints they use to remember that rock.
This way it gets the students involved in the process, provides
realistic images and utilizes the students thinking process when trying
to memorize certain rocks, which can be a rather boring process for
most. Another way I can see myself using this program is to gain the
interest of students at the beginning of new topics. I can create my
own movie with images, such as weather systems, which will make
entering a new lesson easy and fun. PhotoStory 3 is a fun and easy way
to gain the interest of students and to help get them involved with
technology and learning!
