Dear Professor Royer,
Assignment four was to write a memo to you stating
the revisions we chose to make over the course of the semester. I know
several other members of the class chose to revise most of their work
however I ended up spending most of my time on my project five for the
Latin American Studies Program.
Project Two: Front Door Re-design:
I did however re-design my front door page to give it a little bit more
professional look and feel. I chose to modify some images that I have
taken with my new digital camera and include them on my site. I also chose
to re-design the navigation system to include more use of CSS with the
link styles and the body text. I think this site, although still very
simple, is much better than my first front door.
My first front door page was just random links
on the page with a picture. Nothing was in any particular order and it
was done the first night of class. This new site uses tables, fireworks
images, and CSS to clean up the layout and make the navigation system
much easier to use.
Project Four:
Project four was our re-design of a current and existing site. The LAS
group was given the project of redesigning the Conference on the Americas
site that Professor Rhodes already had on his www4 site. Each member of
the wrote a section of this site and then all those sections were combined
into one main site.
The group got a score of 85% for this project. After I spent the class
period putting this site together and linking all the pages up I realized
that the site we made wasn't going to match the look and feel of my current
site so I chose to re-design the Conference on the Americas site all together
again this past week in class. The previous site linked to individual
students sites and they all made changes to it after it was posted. The
result was a horrible site with different images and bad formatting.
My new site for project four can be found under the Conference on the
Americas link off my main LAS page. While the majority of the conference
site is just text, I feel it has a better look to be attached to my site
and is consistent with the remainder of the site. I also chose to re-do
the navigation system for this site by adding a sub-navigation system
to make it easier to get around within the conference page.
Project Five:
While we haven't received our grades for project five yet I would just
like to say that I chose to spent more time on project five than re-designing
other sites. I made this decision because I felt the Professor Rhodes
was looking for a very professional site that he can use in place of his
current LAS site. In order to accomplish this task, I felt it was more
important to spend a considerable amount of time in the designing of this
site.
I chose to use template for easy navigation and for an overall consistent
look and feel. My site looks very similar to that of other department
web sites on the GVSU server and doesn't feel too out of place. Images
are used throughout the site to enhance the quality of the presentation.
This site uses multiple CSS styles and has a very complex navigation system
in terms of actual design.
I believe hope this site is what the LAS program
is looking for and I hope they are able to use it. There are a few pages
with blank information that I could not find that they can use should
they choose. The Faculty pages need to have that information updated and
posted before the site goes live so students can contact the faculty.
Lastly under the contact us page there are two
form pages that offer feedback on the site. These are not going to actually
be able to work on the current GVSU server but they are there for looks
incase Professor Rhodes would like to create something like that on his
www4 server and link to this new site.
I believe that is about all that I have as far as revisions go for my
web pages. If there were more time in the semester I would have re-designed
some of the other sites with the skills I learned but I guess those will
have to wait for another day.
If you have any questions about my site please
feel free to contact me a chapmanm@student.gvsu.edu
and I would be happy to help out.
Happy Holidays
Matt
