Our Mission

La Pulperia Nica (the Nicaraguan grocery Store) is our attempt to bring awareness of social inequality to GVSU by providing our peers with information on challenges facing impoverished countries such as Nicaragua.  Our efforts to alleviate the social inequality include providing Nicaraguan fair- trade coffee and other good to directly profit those that are responsible for their production.

Our History and People

After a study abroad trip to Nicaragua, a group of Grand Valley Students decided to start an organization.  Courtney spearheaded the project and, in turn, serves as our president. In fact, three of the four officers are students that went on the trip.  To learn more about the people involved in the group and why they chose to get involved click here.

Coffee Sales

What we sell: Currently, only fair-trade coffee

Where we buy our coffee: Equal Exchange

Proceeds: All of our profits go directly to the people that work to alleviate social inequality in Nicaragua.  The groups that we send our proceeds to include, but are not limited to:

-         Jubilee House

-         Cecocafen

-         Los Quinchos

-         Equal Exchange
