TOP 5 THRILLERS
(movies that keep you on the edge of your seat)

The Usual Suspects
This is the movie that made me want to be a film director.  An amazing story with a ton of plot twists.  With an Oscar winning story by Christopher McQuarrie, and an Oscar winning performance by Kevin Spacey.  Note:  if you read the review by Roger Ebert by using the link on the right, I must warn you that he trashes this movie.  But trust me this is a AMAZING flick.

Memento
This movie is as mind-blowing as "The Usual Suspects".  Christopher Nolan's sophomore movie is a masterpiece.  The story is told backwards, making it a bit much the first viewing, but even better the second time around.  Starring one of the most underrated actors of our time, Guy Pearce.  This movie should have cleaned up at the Oscars, but it only got two nominations, and won neither.

Seven
One of the darkest, most brilliant movies I have seen.  A new cop (Brad Pitt), gets teamed with retiring cop (Morgan Freeman) to catch a madman that is killing one person for committing each of the seven deadly sins.  The villain, who you don't see until the last 30 mins of the movie, is a big name actor, but he is not in the opening credits, credited on the movie poster, and the media was not allowed to put his name in any reviews, so that the audience would be suprised when they find out who it is.

Silence of the Lambs
The role that Sir Anthony Hopkins is known for, Hannibal Lecter.  This movie was only the third movie of all time to win the big 5 Oscars (best pic, original screenplay, director, actor and actress).  There are a few gory sequences, but what is truly creepy is the look in Lecter's eyes.  An intelligent story, that does not need much violence to be scary.

Taxi Driver
I feel this is Robert DeNiro's best film.  You go on a journey into the confused life of taxi driver Travis Bickle.  He is a loner that falls in love, and when he gets his girl he goes about the wrong way of keeping her.  This movie is immortalized by the quote, "Are you talkin' to me? Well, I'm the only one here.", which was not in the script, it was an improv by DeNiro when the cameras just happened to be rolling.
