In the end, you will have produced exciting, innovative graphics to add life and interesting effects to your web page.

This tutorial will prepare you to add additional effects to your web sites and you will be able to complete these tasks in Fireworks without using a tutorial the next time!

Now, let's get started:

Open up a new document in Fireworks. Make sure the size fits the size you have available on your web site. Open the image or create the image or text you would like to animate. Go to Modify, Animate, then Animate Selection. You are now ready to play with the image!

In this box there are six options you can alter to give your image the animation you want it to have.

Step 1: Set up the frames

This step allows you to choose how many times your image will flash on the screen during each time it is played. This also determines intervals of following steps.

Step 2: Move

This step allows you to set up how far your graphics will move in a straight line from their point of origin.

Step 3: Direction

This step allows you to set the angle at which your graphics will move. If you select the option arrow, you can rotate the dial so the indicator points to the direction you want your graphics to move.

Step 4: Scale To

This step will change the graphics to the specified percentage over intervals depending on how many frames are chosen.

Step 5: Opacity

In this step you can change the lightness and darkness of your image. Set the percentage to the lightness and darkness you want it to begin and end at. The image will change at intervals depending on how many frames are selected. Note: 100% is opaque.

Step 6: Rotate

Here you can select if you'd like your image to rotate clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW). You may not want your image to rotate at all.

Step 7: Review Your Graphics!

After you have made your selections for all of the above options, click OK, and then press the > button and play your graphics. You can then alter your Animate decisions based on how the image looks when it is played.

Troubleshooting:

*If you receive an alert box that states there needs to be more frames in order for your specified animation to work, click OK.
