Martin
Barry
Martin is Director of University Bands at GVSU. He received his
M.S. from the University of Illinois, and his B.M. degree in music
education from the University of Akron. In addition to conducting
the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Varsity Bands, he
directs the University Marching Band and teaches conducting and
marching band techniques in the Department of Music. Before joining
the music faculty at GVSU in 1994, he taught as a graduate assistant
and conducting intern at the University of Illinois. Martin also
served as Assistant Director of Bands and Director of the Marching
Band at Akron. He has numerous arranging credits and writes music
performed by the GVSU ensembles. He is a member of the National
Band Association and College Band Directors National Association.
He also holds honorary memberships in the Michigan School Band and
Orchestra Association, Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity,
Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Fraternity, and Mu Phi Epsilon.
Ted
Bazany
Ted
Bazany is assistant director of bands at Grand Valley State University.
He received both the bachelor and master's of music education degrees
from Central Michigan University. He holds a Michigan Secondary
Permanent Certificate with Endorsement for Instrumental Music. Among
Mr. Bazany's honors are Jenison Public Schools Teacher of the Year,
State of Michigan "Teacher of the Year" state finalist,
three times MSBOA District Ten Teacher of the Year for Instrumental
Music, and MSBOA state finalist for Teacher of the Year. While Director
of Bands at Jenison Public Schools, the marching and concert bands
received many honors and awards at district, state, and national
levels. Mr. Bazany is a member of the American School Band Directors
Association, active in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association,
and chairman of the MSBOA State Marching Band Committee for six
years. He is also a member of the conducting staff of Blue Lakes
Fine Arts Camp and Calvin College Summer Music Camp. Ted Bazany
has been a member of the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band for the past
21 years.
