Learning about the history of Egypt

   Description
        Students will learn about the history of Egypt through the research of an assigned topic.  Each student pair will then present their findings to the class.

   Grade Level
        4th through 6th grades

   Time Needed
        2 hrs for research and 5-10 min per presentation*

        *This time can be broken up into segments that span several days

        History

   Goal
        To help students acquire knowledge of and an appreciation for Egyptian history.

   Objectives
        1. The learner will acquire knowledge about the history of Egypt through research by the end of the week.
        2. The learner will share his/her knowledge with the class by presenting his/her findings in a 5-10 min presentation by the end of the week.

   Materials
        access to a library and/or the internet
        attached list of approved topics - list of topics
        paper
        pens/pencils

   Procedure
        1. Assign the students to pairs, and then a topic to each pair.
        2. Give students research time, answering any questions that they might have during their research.
        3. Allow students 5-10 min per pair to present their findings to the class.  Plan on getting through approximately 4-5 presentations per day.

   Tying it together
        1. This lesson gives students a realistic understanding of Egypt from ancient times up to the present.
        2. By helping students understand the history of another culture, a better appreciation and understanding of their own culture and history will be discovered.
