Mr. Rick Shore Dear Mr. Hert, I am pleased to inform you of a brand new benefit that the West Michigan Tourist Association is offering to all employees starting the first of next month. This benefit will assist those employees who are responsible for and take care of their elderly parents. Nationally, one in four workers over the age of 40 provides assistance and care for an elderly parent or other relative, and our organization is no exception. This is a benefit that will not only improve the personal lives of our employees, but also the work environment in which we work. Many employees who are caring for a relative are unable to complete work efficiently or at all because of the added stress of their responsibilities. We are confident that this new approach will help our employees in both their personal and professional lives. This new elderly care benefit can be broken down into three main approaches. The first is the assistance in finding quality care for a parent. Our Human Resource office is now able to provide employees with referrals for reputable and superior adult day care and long term assisted living or nursing home facilities. Along with this, we have names and numbers of qualified private care givers. Although the WMTA does not pay for the services themselves, our time and dedication in finding the care that is right for you and your loved one is a great service in itself. The second part of this benefit is the allowance of employees to use personal time off and sick days to care for their relative. Employees are also able to use time off during the work day to wait in the arrival of a medical professional or care giver. Employees must notify their supervisor in advance, and make up this time within 30 days. Employees needing more time can take an unpaid leave of absence for up to 15 months and return to their current job and salary. The third part of this benefit are sponsored seminars geared towards those caring for elderly loved ones. These seminars are free, and will be a great asset to our company as a whole. There will be a different seminar every month, and each topic and speaker will be announced in advance. The schedule for the next three months are as follows: June 14, 2007 – Understanding the New Medicare Plans July 27, 2007 – Choosing the Right Nursing Home For Your Loved One August 20, 2007 – Understanding Alzheimers and Dementia
We are very excited about offering this new benefit to all of our employees here at the West Michigan Tourist Association. Even if you do not care for an elderly relative now, it is never too early to plan for the time when you might, and hopefully this benefit and all that it offers will help you to do that. The West Michigan Tourist Association cares about all of its employees and searches for ways to enhance their quality of life. Please call our Human Resource office if you would like to make an appointment. Sincerely,
Meghan K. Farley

Dear Mr. Reineke: As a valued employee of the West Michigan Tourist Association, we are very interested in any concerns you might have. That is why we have taken the time to further investigate your concerns over the HMO coverage of your recent hospital procedure. The HMO coverage you when your contract began in November of 2006, Superior Medical of Michigan, offers procedure coverage at both Blodgett Hospital and Butterworth Hospital, but not St. Catherine’s – where your procedure took place. This information is detailed in the HMO coverage booklet that is received upon choosing Superior Medical of Michigan coverage. Because this is clearly outlined, the West Michigan Tourist Association cannot be held responsible for the medical fees that are due from this procedure. If you are unhappy with Superior Medical of Michigan, you may change HMO coverage in October, during the next open enrollment period. However, costs cannot be transferred with HMO coverage, and all previous balances still apply. If you would like to receive assistance with negotiating payment terms or even credit-union short term loans, please call our Financial Aid office to make an appointment at (616) 331-6789. The Financial Aid office specializes in medical costs, and we have experts to help employees with payment plans. Also, you can reach Superior Medical of Michigan with specific questions at (517) 548-7890. Your concerns are important, so if you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me again. Sincerely, Meghan K. Farley Director of Employee Benefits
