My Resume

I have had many "jobs" in the past. But only one of those was an "official" job. After I graduated from high school I decided that it was time for me to face the real world. So I set out to find a job and after filling out a few applications I found the right job for me.

There are several things that I hope to look back on for guidence when I begin my career:

Receptionist - Fantastic Sam's

I began working at Fantastic Sam's in June of 2000. Fantastic Sam's is a hair salon that is privately owned but is part of a regional corporation. I had many responsibilities at this job including answering phones, cashier, filing, computer work, and cleaning. I dealt with the public all the time, answering their questions and helping them with whatever they needed. Over the summer I worked full time and when I came to Grand Valley I continued to work at Fantastic Sam's every other weekend. I loved working there as my fellow employees were great. They were very patient with me while I was learning and when I decided to quite in order to find a job here at school they were very supportive and said that they were sad to see "one of their best employees go". I worked at Fantastic Sam's for nine months and in that nine months I learned a lot about working with other people, filing, record keeping, computers (as they are used for work with a small business), and also handling the public.

My education

Upon my graduation from high school last May, I was ranked in the top fifty in my class of 366 students and I had a 3.633 overall GPA. After completing my first semester at Grand Valley I am proud to say that I currently have a 4.0 GPA and was named to the Dean's list.  I am very dedicated to my schooling and I feel that my grades reflect that dedication. Since I have taken a great interest in health science over the past few years, I have chosen to take mostly science classes both in high school and in college.

Odd Jobs

Over the years I have had many odd jobs. I was a baby-sitter for about six years having a variety of families leaving their kids in my care. I have also, numerous times, been hired to house-sit and dog-sit while friends and family members have gone on vacations. I believe that these odd jobs, although they may seem small, have made me the responsible, dedicated person that I am today. I  think that it says a lot about a person when a family will trust them to take care of their house while they are away.

I hope to soon get a job here at Grand Valley. This summer I will probably return to work at Fantastic Sam's full time until school begins again.
