APPEARANCE: Garrett is a larger than average human, standing at 6’2”, and
his
230 lb. frame appears to be nothing but muscle. His black hair falls to
his shoulders, a simple way of helping to ward off the constant bitter cold.
Garret has blue eyes, and is often seen dressed in the clerical robes of Domi, with a holy symbol always worn on a chain around his
neck. Under the robes, is worn a suit of chain male, and a heavy steel shield
is either in hand or strapped to his back. A Longsword
hangs to his right side, and a crossbow to his left.
PERSONALITY: Garrett is quite somber and serious for a 17 year old, but in the
harsh Southern Continent, it’s not too unusual. Garrett is often the first to
volunteer or offer to assist with anything that needs doing, especially if
physical labor is involved. When not working in the village, he can usually be
found practicing combat maneuvers or praying to Domi.
To his friends and fellow villagers, he is extremely loyal and dedicated, and
wouldn’t think twice about putting himself in harms way to help another.
HISTORY: Garrett was
born the only son of Verdil and Elicia
Jax. Verdil is a smithy in
the village, and Garrett grew up around the forge. While Verdil
crafted and created many things upon the forge, young Garrets interest was
drawn to the weapons. Often that is the case for most young boys, as they dream
of a glory and fame that rarely occurs. As Garrett grew he frequently helped
his father at the forge, adding a good bit of muscle to a tall gangly frame,
and began to learn to craft weapons. The first weapon he ever drafted was a poorly
shaped dagger, barely sharp enough to cut butter, that
he carried with pride.
Shortly
after his eighth birthday, the village was raided by orcs.
His mother was killed and his father wounded in the fighting. Garrett saw his
mother die, and the orc that killed her, but did
nothing. He stood paralyzed with fear, and watched his mother die, his
misshapen dagger still in it’s sheath.
Garrett was
haunted with grief and guilt at the death of his mother, and began having
terrible nightmares, reliving the grisly scene several times a night. Until one
night the nightmare was replaced by a different dream. Instead of cowering in
fear before his mothers murderer, he pulled his dagger and let it fly, striking
the orc in the eye and killing it dead. As Garrett
walked up and pulled the dagger from the orcs skull,
he saw that the symbol of domi was upon his blade and
glowed brightly. Whether or not the dream was a sign from Domi,
or only dream, none but Domi knows for sure, but to
Garrett it was a sign.
Upon waking
from this dream, Garrett sat in bed staring at the walls for the rest of the
night, thinking on what he had dreamed. That morning he dedicated himself to
never again standing by the wayside in fear as others
stepped forward. He would become the strongest and the bravest, the first
to step forward into danger, and the last to turn from it.
As his
father healed from his wounds, Garrett took his place as best he could at his
fathers forge, working until his muscles failed from fatigue. He toiled day and
night, building his strength and endurance. When not working he talked with any
who would talk with him about Domi. He questioned the
elders and holy men to the point where some often tried to avoid him running
into him. Garret began practicing with the longsword
with his fathers permission and supervision, learned all he could about
fighting with the sword
Some time
later, a much stronger and more physically fit Garrett dedicated himself to Domi and the beliefs for which he stands. Almost everything
Garrett does, he does in order to be ready for what may happen. Should Domi, his friends, his family, or the village call upon
him, he plans to be prepared.
