Bettie is officially Betty, named after her grandmother. At the age of 16, however, Bettie unofficially changed her name so that it ended with an “ie,” in an attempt to be unconventional. It stuck. Bettie is a senior professional writing major and business minor at Grand Valley State University, currently relishing her last days as a relatively carefree student. During the school year, you can usually find her with her nose buried in a book, agonizing over her own writing, or working at her part-time job as a content writer for Expedia, Inc.
Bettie has been in love with writing since the ripe old age of 6, when her kindergarten teacher read one of her journal entries on penguins aloud to the class. Since then, her affection toward correctly placed apostrophes, unique adjectives and alliteration has grown exponentially. She cannot imagine doing anything else with her life now.
When her nose is not buried in a book or absorbed in writing of some sort, Bettie enjoys vacationing in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. She is also involved in Grand Valley Senior Citizens Club, and regularly visits area nursing homes and works with the organization to put on dances and events for local senior citizens. She spent two-and-one-half years working at a nursing home, and misses some of the residents there dearly. Rollerblading, jogging, music, movies, and spending time with her friends and boyfriend are also among Bettie’s favorite activities.
Upon graduating in April, Bettie is sure adventures will ensue. What these adventures will entail, however, remains a mystery. She is seeking a career in either content or technical writing.
On a more trivial note, she plans to name all future pets after characters in classic novels or their authors.
