SOUTH BEND, IN - The Lakers competed in the fourth installment of the Great Lakes Division Championships this weekend at the University of Notre Dame. After playing in two hard fought battles on Saturday against rival Ball State and newcomer Albion, the Lakers were set to square off against the host, Notre Dame. The Lakers got off to a slow start against the Irish as the score was 4-2 in favor of the Irish midway through the 2nd period. Then, Chris Posthumus took over the game. Having already scored the first 2 goals, he scored 4 of the next 5 goals and drew the 4-meter that scored the other. The Lakers fought off a late charge by the Irish, but held on for a 10-9 victory. Posthumus scored 6 goals, Matt Leskovar added 2, and freshman Zach Heathman had the other 2 in the Lakers fourth consecutive conference championship win. This brings the Lakers' all-time Great Lakes Division record to 32 – 0.
The win secured the Great Lakes Division's bid to the Collegiate Club National Championships. The CCNC are hosted by Williams College, in Williamstown, MA, November 18th through the 20th.
