GVSU Finishes First at Miami Invitational

GVSU played this weekend at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.  The team went down hoping to defend their crown, having won the tournament last year.  They finished up bracket play 2-0 and headed into a semi-final showdown with tournament host Miami.  Miami put up a great fight, but the Lakers were able to come out victorious with a final score of 11-10.  The Lakers would then face off against the Texas Longhorns in the final.  The first quarter was a draw with each team notching 2 goals.  The Longhorns tried to pull away in the second quarter winning it 4-2, making the halftime score 4-6.  But the Lakers would not allow Texas to stay ahead long.  GVSU scored on their first two possessions of the second half and would end up going into the 4th quarter tied 7-7.  The Lakers took a 10-8 lead halfway through the 4th period and held on to win 10-9.  Chris Posthumus and Matt Leskovar were named to the All-Tournament team.  They scored 9 and 13 goals respectively.
