GVSU finished 2nd at the Wolverine Invite

GVSU traveled to the University of Michigan this weekend with hopes of bringing another 1st place finish back to Allendale.  These dreams were dashed with a loss to MSU in the winner’s bracket.

Grand Valley finished pool play on Saturday undefeated with wins over MSU ‘B’ and Purdue.  They were then set to match up with MSU and U of M to determine who would finish first.  GVSU matched up against the Spartans on Sunday morning in a battle of the nation’s number one and two ranked programs.  Michigan State played a great game and the Lakers did not show up with the focus needed to win the game.  Although it was close, GVSU was dropped by MSU 11-10.  Captain Matt Leskovar netted 6 goals in defeat.  After the loss, Coach Josh Ahrendt had this to say, “We just didn’t show up defensively.  We’re going to win most games we play in which we score 10 goals.  Mental mistakes cost us and we weren’t sharp enough to get the win.”  Grand Valley then came back strong in the afternoon defeating Michigan 13-6 to finish in 2nd place.

The Lakers travel to Dayton, Ohio this weekend for the first conference tournament of the year. Schedule HERE
