PAYING BILLS ONLINE

People's Expectations

With the World Wide Web being the fastest way to communicate, it has become one of the most fashionable ways to get business done. One of the most popular activities online is paying bills. When people pay their bills online, they are expecting the system to be quick, easy, and reliable. By "quick" it may not be instantaneous, but it will take less than "up to five business days" as normal bill payments suggest. The term "easy" means the user is able to pay their bill without stressing out over using the website. It shouldn't be a difficult task by any means. The term "reliable" refers to the trust that the user has with the company and their website. The company must provide a secure and confidential website so that all of the user's information is kept confidential.

My Experience

The first company I worked with was Capital One, VISA. At the home website for Capital One the first step is to log into the system. It will then ask me for my name and password. Taking me to my most recent activity, I am able to see the four main options across the top: My Recent Activity, My Statement, Pay My Bill, and Customer Service.

To pay my bill, I click on “Pay My Bill” where it holds my bank account information. It tells me my total current balance, the minimum amount due, and the due date. As far as my bank account information, it lists my Financial Institution, Account type, Routing Number, and Account Number (showing only the last 4 digits). Next is the Amount to be Paid. Provided, is a box where I can type in the exact amount I want to pay on my bill. Proceeding is the information of when the payment will take place, also giving the days payments are unable to take place. At the bottom of the page are five bullets of tips and rules regarding the payments.
