ASSIGNMENT 1

There are many differences between print design and web design. Both can be creative and striking, but there are many things that set them apart. If you were to use the same type of style on a print design and a web design, they still would not look the same. There are types of styles that you just use for print design and some that you only use for web design also.

As Nielsen states in the article "Differences Between Print Design and Web Design", print design is two-dimensional, while web design is one-dimensional and n-dimensional. Both designs give the reader a different way of reading the information displayed for them. With web design being n-dimensional it can give readers the ability to move freely around the page while quickly taking a reader to another resource or piece of information by the use of links (Nielsen, 1999). Whereas, with a newspaper you would need to go find the other source that the information you are reading is referring to.

Another difference commonly seen between print design and web design is readability. Stories and headlines are more catchy in print rather than on a computer screen. You are able to look at more at once on a newspaper page than you are on a webpage.
