Since the University of Michigan was established in 1817, the people there have prided themselves
on not only academic excellence, but athletic excellence as well. Football and basketball are, arguably,
the two most popular sports in America, and the University of Michigan has enjoyed success in both of
these two major sports. This website was designed to take a little deeper look at the history, tradition,
and expections that come along with being a Michigan Wolverine.

"The Victors"

Regarded by many, including John Phillip Sousa, to be the
"greatest college fight song of all-time," "The Victors" represents
everything that Michigan football fans have to be proud of. While
being a very simple song, it is still one of the proudest songs any
sports fan can ever hope to hear. Written in 1898 by Louis Elbel
after a UM football victory over Chicago, it has been a staple of
Michigan football Saturdays ever since.

One of the most famous spectacles in college football is when, at the beginning of every home game, the Michigan players run under the "GO BLUE" banner while the band plays "The Victors" as loudly and proudly as possible.

"Rivalries"

No team in college football can boast the rivalries that Michigan can. During the course of any given football season, Michigan will compete in the greatest rivlalry in sports against Ohio State, for the Paul Bunyan trophy against Michigan State, for the Little Brown Jug vs Minnesota, and against Notre Dame, Michigan's only real competitor for the title "Greatest football program in the country." All of these games contribute, to what is usually a wildly exciting and entertaining college football season.

"The Bo"
This simply would not be an acceptable Michigan football page without the mention of Bo Schembechler. He led Michigan to 13 BigTen championships and is the most major contributor to the rivalry that is Michigan-Ohio State. He was famous for never saying "Ohio State" but rather referring to them as "the school to the south." He will forever remain in the hearts of Michigan football fans, as he has now passed away. Schembechler Hall, Michigan's athletic training facility stands as a constant reminder of the influence that Bo had on the university as well as the rest of college football.
