Los Pobres is an organization that serves a marginalized community. They represent the poorest of the poor in El Salvador. Originally people moved to this area from the country because of the river that runs through Los Pobres. However, as more and more people came, the river became polluted and destroyed. Today the water is extremely polluted and should not be drunk by anyone. This is a Catholic run organization, started by Father Daniel. Father Daniel’s lovingly nickname is little flea because he is forever moving around and never stops working. The people that live in this community suffer from unemployment, underemployment, health issues, discrimination, oppression, and being considered outcasts.
Los Pobres offers schooling, a library, elderly center, child care, eye clinic, and health care clinic. They receive financial aide funding and donations. Here's a news article regarding current medical issues in Los Pobres.
