This page is devoted to our class' study of the best-selling novel Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya. Nectar in a Sieve is the story of Rukmani, a peasant woman who lives in a poverty-stricken Indian village at the beginning of the transition between British and Indian national control. Despite the hardships and challenges she faces throughout her life, Rukmani never falters from her gallant and persistent battle to care for those she loves.
