Historyof the GVSU Belly Dance Club
The Belly Dance Club was started by Grand Valley students Abby Sakka, who was the first president of the club and Sarah Stuart, the first VP in 2008. They started the club with the goal to teach students at GVSU a different form of dance that can help boast self confidence. They reserved space in the dance studio and gained student interest at GVSU's Campus life night held in August. Every Tuesday night they taught dance moves, and eventually created a choreography. The new members auditioned for the chance to perform at different events held on campus. In 2009 Sarah Became president and wanted to include more dancers than the original 12 performers. With the help of the original members the group expanded to over 50 new performers and held their own event March 31st 2010. |
