Asian Student Union
The goal of the Asian Student Union organization will focus on serving as a support group and an educational resource for Asians and students who interested in learning more about Asian cultures. The group will strive to disperse stereotypes regarding Asian Americans through workshops and cultural events in hope of creating an Asian voice on campus. We will work together and unite with other minority student organizations in promoting cultural diversity. We hope to achieve these goals through active campus and community involvement. As with all organizations, membership in the campus is open to all students, regardless of gender, age, or religion.
Known originally as the Asian Pacific Islander Student Organization (APISO), this group was the brainchild of five ethnically diverse Asian Americans in the fall of 1993 who felt the need to establish an Asian American voice on campus. Focused mainly on service oriented activities, the group slowly made the transition to promoting various Asian Cultures though the campus programming. As a young organization. However, as time went on interest increased as so did member ship. In the winter of 1998, the group collectively decided to change its name to the Asian Student Union with hopes to promote the ideals of its founding class, which is to establish, maintain, and promote Asian Awareness.
