III.              Process:

1.      Print a copy of the Michigan WebQuest worksheet.  (Record your answers here.)

2.      Visit the www.50states.com website and click on Michigan.  Use this page to find out the origin of our state’s name.

3.      Thousands of years ago, strange animals roamed Michigan.  Use the second website to figure out what kind of animals they were and how scientist learned about them.

4.      Utilize the FactFinder website to research the population of Michigan in the year 2000.

5.      Did you know that Michigan’s state animal is the wolverine?  Have you ever seen one?  Watch the video clip on wolverines to learn more about them.

6.      Michigan has its own racetrack that hosts national races like NASCAR.  Visit the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) website.  From the main page, click Track Info to read about MIS.

7.      Michigan is a set of two peninsulas, meaning that each is surrounded by water on three sides.  That’s a lot of beaches!  Use the World Book Encyclopedia to find how much shoreline we really have.

8.      Because of all this water, we need a way to get from one peninsula to the other.  Michigan’s solution to this problem is the world’s longest suspension bridge, the Mackinac Bridge.  Learn more about the bridge at its own official website.  (You may want to visit the Facts & Figures Page)

9.      Use all of the previous resources to write a paragraph convincing someone to visit Michigan.  You may do a little research of your own using Google to search the web.
