A
companion is a person The Doctor personally asks to join him on his
adventures. These characters create a connection with the viewers by
adding typical human challenges and characteristics. We see these
people making human mistakes, which can lead to trouble for The Doctor,
but there are also many times where these companions assist and rescue
The Doctor. They are his close, personal connection with humanity, and
help him to learn. Because there are approximately fifty companions over the past five decades, I will name only a couple for each regeneration of The Doctor.
