Artist Statement
The medium of jewelry allows me to create works of art that sculpturally convey concepts, feelings, and experiences that work in physical relationship to transform and manipulate the human body.
In order to attain knowledge we must be good listeners and observers. Listening
and observation, in turn, are skills that require practice and patience to
refine fully. With my work I seek to encourage the act of listening through
physical adornment and innovation. It attempts to highlight the flow of communication
and knowledge through conversation.
When worn these pieces interact as visual indicators of internal thoughts
of expression acting as facilitators of a silent conversation between wearer
and viewer. Each piece in this series of my work interacts with the wearer’s
own body movement and body shape, while at the same time searching and invading
the space of the viewer, refusing to be ignored. Each piece is designed to
reflect the distinct thoughts and desires of the wearer, and is reflected
through the visual symbolism of growth from the wearer’s body.
