Lesson Plan for Day #4
Title: Real-World
Connector Cable: Finding possible connections.
Overview: Today will consist of three major
discussions. We will start out by
discussing what students have already observed in the first five sections of
their Detective Notebook. We will
continue by familiarizing ourselves with the idea of allegory for the sake of
social commentary. We will make
connections between this new idea, the text, and our discussion yesterday. We will finish by discussing the text as am
anti-utopia. Students will be ready to
start making observations about possible allegories by the end of class today.
Goals / Objectives:

start thinking about the novel as a social commentary

understand the term: allegory and begin to speculate about allegorical meaning
in Feed
·
Students will
begin to think of Feed as an anti-utopia

Activities / Procedures:
I will log into our
classroom discussion board so that we can discuss the observations that the
students have made so far. We will
also discuss observations that students have made in their notebook even if
they have not posted them. |

I will turn the discussion
to the idea of Utopian and anti-utopian societies. We will read the definitions provided on
the hand out. What sort of traits in Titus’
world seem to be ideal? Do you think Titus
feels that his world is convenient? How about perfect? Are there things that lead us to think that
maybe there are “fatal flaws” or “perversions” in Titus’ world? |

I will quickly check
notebooks to make sure that there are at least 4 entries. I will assign pages 75-119 for class
tomorrow. I will also instruct
students to begin filling out their Detective Notebooks in the sixth section. |
