What once was a dream of ours for years will hopefully become a reality very soon. My sisters, mother and I dream about opening a bakery.
The idea of Oma's Kitchen began when my sisters and I would take a breakfast break during garage sale season at a local bakery. They always had the most amazing baked goods and breads and we thought that our hometown area needed something like that.
The name, Oma's Kitchen, came from our grandmother; we called her Oma. Oma was always making the best treats and the kitchen in her home was always a place where people would come to catch up on the news of the community and to enjoy whichever treats she had made that day.
Every day at 10 am, the local farmers and neighbors would come to her house for their coffee break and it was always the place to be on Sunday mornings.
She kept such a welcoming home, it was impossible to feel uncomfortable there. It was and is our goal to keep Oma's Kitchen as she did: warm and inviting with hot coffee and baked goods at the ready.

Corky | Cindy | Julie |
Corky is the matriarch of the Oma's Kitchen and she is Oma's daughter and the mother of the rest of us. While Julie will contend that she's been decoring cakes her entire life, Corky is the one who signed up for the Wilton Method decorating classes (along with Cindy) and really got the ball rolling on this venture. Corky works third shift at Woodward FST and also manages another business with her sister- GrassHoppers Lawn Mowing.
Cindy is our candy and cookie expert. While the rest of the girls hate doing such meticulous tasks, Cindy brings her patience and gets the job done. She took 2 of the three Wilton Method classes with Corky, but she tends to leave the majority of the decorating to Julie. Cindy has 2 children and a husband and spends her days running an in-home daycare.
Julie is the Head Decorator of the organization. Every cake that you will see in the design section has more than likely been freehanded by Julie. She is a "self-taught" decorator, but has received some guidance from Corky and Cindy. She is a full-time student at Grand Valley State and will graduate in May 2007 with a degree in English and Elementary Education. She has a husband and 2 sons (one being her dog).
Sometimes Lisa doesn't know how she fits in to the bakery because she is too afraid to mess up an order, so she tends to shy away from actually decorating. She prides herself on being the mathemetician, figuring out how many cake mixes are needed and how much frosting needs to be made- yes, there is math involved in cake decorating!! She is usually the one to search various cake decoting Web sites (mostly Cake Central)for inspiration and she also provides the valuable babysitting services for Cindy's and Julie's kids while they are decorating. Lisa is also attending Grand Valley State and will graduate in December 2007 with a degree in public relations.
