Monster.com-Employment Resource Site
Monster.com is an employment resource available on the internet which services not only those seeking employment but also those seeking employees. The many users include those looking for jobs in a variety of jobs and as of the publication of this report, there are over 800,000 listings for opportunities an Monster.com. There are several sites like Monster.com, ( mlive.com for local employement opportunities and Job.com) but Monster.com is the biggest and most successful employment site in the country.
While newspaper ads and trade magazines were the medium of choice for employers in previous decades, the internet has made it possible for employers to find not only an abundance of qualified candidates, but to tailor their advertisements to the specific needs of the jobs that need to be filled. Print ads limit and confine the amount an employer can describe the job adequately and Monster.com allows for unlimited space to describe employement opportunities.
The other benefit to Monster.com is the global area with which they can search for applicants, ensuring that they can find the best, most suitable candidate for the job. Monster.com also solves the problem of resume submission and job location. By posting a resume on the web, companies all over the world can view your qualifications.
Not only beneficial to the employers, job applicants can search for specific jobs which play to their fields of interest and qualifications on a global scale, increasing opportunity and overall job satisfaction. Applicants can brows through several listings after completing some search criteria and find the job that suits them best.
To the right is a screeshot of the initial search criteria a job seeker must complete before he can begin scrolling through job listings. |
Another nice feature provided by Monster.com is the resume builder provided for those who are actively seeking employment but have yet to compose a resume.
Using Monser.com is actually very easy. Question fields appear to specify as to what field you are looking to be employed in. Region, location and educational background also appear to help refine the search and list only jobs that you are presently qualified for. I have often used Monster.com to gauge the field of technical writing and see what the job market is like for those in this field of study. Thankfully, Monster.com has consistently re-affirmed my pursuits and helped me motivate myself to continue pursuing this area of study. The sheer abundance of opportunities all over the United State (I opted not to pursue jobs located in different countries) was incredibly helpful in my determining where possible jobs would be located upon my graduation. However, as the old saying goes, it pays to specialize and I realize that I may need to focus my writing on a more specific field of technical writing. Also by using the site, I hope to show potential employers that I am computer savvy, which is a skill that is always beneficial.
While Monster.com is an easy-to-use site, the advertising blogs are annoying. I hate the pop-ups which appeared while I was using the site. Most people looking for jobs on the internet are not in the mood for pop-up advertising and it was really bugging me. I understand that the advertising is necessary evil in order to fund the site but man I hate pop-ups. The sad thing is that the advertisements are sponsored by Monster.com.
Outside of that the site was incredibly
useful and easy to use. The operation of the site and the manner in which they
catalog the job listings is first rate and logical. The benefits of using the
site are apparent to both employers and the applicants who use the site.
