Tradition

Once a Titan Runner, Always a Titan Runner

From movie nights before invitationals to praying and singing before races, the Lumen Christi girls cross-country teams has many traditions.  In fact, the team is so rooted in tradition that even the uniforms have not changed since the early years.  While the girls on every team are all unique and unrepeatable, the chemistry and character of the team throughout the years has remained surprisingly constant.  The common factor to each team and the reason the program is built so strongly on tradition is Coach Mike Woolsey.  For the past 29 years, Coach Woolsey has stressed the core values of hard-work, dedication, and a positive attitude to every one of his runners.  Every year the girls look forward to Coach Woolsey telling them stories of runners from the past and reminding them of the rich tradition of success they are now part of.  The emphasis on alumni and tradition is one of the greatest keys to the continued success of the Lumen Christi Women's Cross-Country program.  The athletes feel a deep sense of pride in being involved in something bigger than themselves.  They are highly motivated to work hard and to be successful in order to add on to the incredible accomplishments of the team throughout the decades.  The fact that many of the workouts and team activities have remained the same since the team began adds to the sense of sisterhood and connection between current team members and alumni.  The Lumen Christi girls cross-country alumni are extremely involved and supportive of their team.  They drive long distances to cheer for and visit with the current Lady Titans.  Many alumni even send encouraging letters to the team before big races.   The strong sense of tradition and connectedness between every one of the Lumen Christi girls cross-country teams ensures that if you were once a Titan runner, you will always be a Titan runner.

The 25th Anniversary of Lumen Christi Girls Cross-Country

On September 4th, 2004, several Titan cross-country alumni came out to participate in the 25th annual alumni meet, celebrate 25 years of Lumen Christi girls cross-country, and show their support for the current team.  Holly Martin (formerly Hunting), the foundress of the team in 1979, was quoted saying, "This is going to be a total tribute to Mike (Woolsey).  He's the most unassuming, wonderful man in the world.  He's made such a tremendous impact on so many lives and we want to show him how much he's meant to us."
