ASIS (Association of Students from the Indian Subcontinent) was founded in the Fall of 2001 by students who were interested in sharing sub continental culture with the Grand Valley Student body and the Grand Rapids community. The purpose of this group is to create cultural awareness in today's global society. A general misconception about any cultural organization is that to be a part of it, you have to be from a particular nationality or from that origin, this is NOT true. ASIS is open to all GVSU students interested in learning about sub continental culture. ASIS is affiliated with India Link, a Grand Rapids based organization, which shares many cultural events throughout the year with the community and these events incorporate dancing, food, socialization and much more!!!!

Within Grand Rapids, there are several sub continental dining restaurants where you can enjoy your evening, for example, Bombay Cuisine, Taste of India and India House, to name a few. We will be making trips to these restaurants occasionally to get away from schoolwork and to just have fun! There are also Indian shops in the area where you can buy Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and other foreign language movies and music. At these shops, they also sell packed food, henna, bindis, jewelry, and pretty much anything you desire. ASIS welcomes you and hopes that you will learn a lot from this organization by working together with us!Come meet us
