my name is kevin becker and i am a art education major with an emphases in metalsmithing at grand valley state university. i grew up on the east side of michigan. i have known for many years that teaching is what i wanted to for the rest of my life. there is a sense of belonging i get when i am helping someone with there art. it is my goal as an art teacher to show my students that the can love art and be happy creating it.

it is a commonality for a person to deem him or herself as artisticly gifted or not when in fact every single person has the ability to be artistic. it is not a matter of what artistic genes were passed down to you or how many art classes you take, every person has the opportunity to showcase his or her individual creativity. being artistic is all about finding confidence in yourself that will show in your work and finding that specific type of art that you enjoy and excel at.

my philosophy toward teaching with technology is that it is an important part and essential
tool for all students. i believe however, that it is not as important as the basic fundamentals
of art. technology is becoming more and more dominant in everyday life and is a skill everyone
needs to have. the purposes and uses of the technologies in art education are using power point
to for presentations, editing and manipulating photos in Photoshop, creating films to tell stores, ect.
these are all important aspects of technology in art education.
