The
overall purpose of this website is to give viewers the history of Grand
Valley State University football and its influence on the institution
as a whole, to inform viewers about the 2014 football season and also
the seniors from the 2014 season!
Grand
Valley football began in the 1970s, and was one of the key factors in
Grand Valley's rise from a small college to a regional university.
President Arend D. Lubbers came to Grand Valley in 1969 and is the one
that began the initial push to have a football team, because he knew
that it would help turn Grand Valley from a smaller commuter college,
into a larger university. 1971 was the year when Grand Valley
first kicked off for their first varsity football season, under head
coach Robert Collins. Coach Collings was a successful high school coach
at Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids before coming to Grand Valley.
